Company History Toho Tenax Co., Ltd. (Japan)

1934   Toho begins production of rayon fiber
1950's   Toho enters the acrylic fiber business
1963   Mishima acrylic textile plant opens
1964   Research on new high-strength carbon fiber begins
1971   Carbon fiber operations commence. Carbon fibers are introduced commercially.
1976   Toho begins technical & sales collaboration with Celanese Corporation in North America.
1981   North American carbon fiber production begins in Rock Hill, SC.
1983   Carbon fiber production technology is provided to Enka AG in Europe.
1986   European production of carbon fiber starts in Oberbruch, Germany.
1993   Toho Carbon Fibers, Inc. is formed to directly market carbon fibers in North America.
