Continuous Filament

Toho Tenax America, Inc. Continuous carbon fiber

Continuous carbon fiber grades, supplied as filament tow, are ideally suited for use in processes such as prepregging, filament winding, pultrusion, and weaving. The fiber is surface treated to improve the fiber-to-resin interfacial bond strength. Additionally, fiber sizing is applied to protect the fiber and to improve handling and wet-out. The sizing is fully compatible with epoxy and vinylester resin systems. Application areas for these fibers include products for the aerospace, defense, recreation and general industrial markets.

Short Fibers

Tenax® short carbon fibers provide good process ability, resin compatibility, and translation of mechanical and electrical properties. Compounds containing short carbon fibers provide higher heat distortion temperatures, and superior thermal conductivity compared to the unreinforced polymer.
Toho Tenax America, Inc. chopped carbon fiber
Chopped
Tenax® chopped carbon fibers for use in thermoplastics are ¼" (6mm) in length and they are suitable for use with all types of automatic fiber feeding systems as well as batch pre-blends.

Chopped fiber grades for use with thermoset resins have been designed to readily disperse into thermosetting systems under low shear mixing conditions.

Water dispersible grades of Tenax® fiber are offered in chopped lengths ranging from ⅛" (3mm) to 1" (25mm) which are designed for use in any water based slurry type application.
Toho Tenax America, Inc. milled carbon fiber
Milled
Tenax® milled carbon fibers are random, short-length fiber materials suitable for use in all resins and aqueous dispersion systems. Typically, the fiber lengths range from <50 to 450 microns in length depending on the grade. The aspect ratio of individual fibers is sufficient to provide both mechanical reinforcement and electrical conductivity to polymer compounds. Additionally, components reinforced with milled carbon fibers are dimensionally stable and distortion-free. Typical applications include electronic chip carrier trays, conductive flooring, and parts for electronic business machines.

OPF is a thermally stable, oxidized PAN fiber with excellent thermal and chemical resistance. OPF fiber does not burn, melt or char, resists most chemicals, is impervious to molten-metal splash and has exceptional electrical resistance.

It has a wide variety of applications including protective clothing, sealing devices, friction products and protective coverings. Spun yarns are easily converted to fabric or braids using standard textile equipment. OPF is also available as a staple fiber for production of mats and felts, or production of spun yarns
